This section provides instructions for building shuttle probes that fit snugly into the grooves of the drive core. Each shuttle probe has up to 15 mm of travel distance, so that any probe tip can reach deep (ventral) brain structures, and tips can be advanced from superficial to deep brain structures over the course of an experiment.

Shuttle types

  1. Wire electrode shuttle (for tetrodes, EEG wires, etc.)
  2. Carbon nanofiber shuttle (for fast cyclic voltammetry)
  3. Optical fiber shuttle (for optogenetic stimulation)
  4. Fluid cannula shuttle (for intracranial infusion of drugs or viral vectors)
